Hey, welcome to Pinning with Presh. I am Presh Rogers and I am the Pinterest badass and I help online businesses like yours, learn how to drive more people and profit to the business through using Pinterest.
Today we are going to talk about the five reasons why your Pinterest strategy might be failing you, might not be working, might not be what you thought it was gonna be.
📍 Reason #1: One Strategy Does NOT Fit All
The first one is, you’re trying to use Pinterest like you use all other social media platforms, so you’re just kind of posting like you’ll post on Instagram, like you’ll post on Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, all those different options out there and you’re are not understanding what Pinterest really is. You don’t really understand that Pinterest is a search engine and how that works differently from a social media platform. Yes, Pinterest has social aspects to it, but the way that people use Pinterest is different from the way that people use other platforms.
So, when we go on Pinterest, we’re not really going to engage. Like we might be following our friends, but we’re not going to really see what they’re doing. Whereas on Instagram, we’re kind of going to see what people that we’re following are doing. We’re going to interact with them. We’re going to watch their stories, engage with them and all those things on Pinterest, it’s different. We’re probably typing something into the search bar. We’re looking at results from things that we’ve searched for. The mindset on those platforms, and the mindset on Pinterest is different and you have to treat it differently. What I see is, a lot of people treat Pinterest the same way they treat other platforms. Understand that there are different ways to use these platforms. And it’s important to understand how to use them so that your strategy that you’re going to be using for these platforms actually works. So that’s the first thing that I see.
📍 Reason #2: Keyword Research
The second thing is that you may be a little lazy. I don’t wanna call anybody out, but a lot of times when I mention keyword research to people, they be like, “I don’t wanna do no keyword research,” or “I’ve done it 10 years ago and I have my 10 keywords and that’s that.” And the thing is you need to really focus on your keyword research because Pinterest is a search engine. So keywords are a major key. It’s a big deal. That’s how your content is going to be found. And having something like five keywords, 10 keywords is just not enough because it is a search engine.
So an example I like to use is that if someone is searching for Pinterest marketing and I only use Pinterest marketing as my keyword, then they might find my stuff. But maybe they’re searching for, you know, social media marketing, maybe they’re searching for online business marketing. Small business marketing how to grow my business with social media. All those things I want my Pinterest content to show up in because they’re just thinking marketing in general. They’re not thinking about that niche of Pinterest yet. They’re thinking about marketing in general. So I want to have all those keywords when I’m leveraging Pinterest within my pin images, my pin titles, my board titles, things like that, because I want my content to show up in those search results.
Your keywords when you’re using Pinterest should be a long, long list. Usually when I’m doing my keyword research for my clients, I give them 35 to 100 keywords that’s going to be based around their content. So do not be lazy when it comes to this part of your strategy, your keywords and making sure these are the right keywords. So doing your research, being really thrilled with your research is going to be very key to your Pinterest success and your strategy success.

📍 Reason #3: Check Your Mindset
A lot of times, if you are already thinking, “Pinterest isn’t going to work for me.” “Pinterest is just not it.” Like after two weeks, “Pinterest is terrible. Pinterest doesn’t work.” If you are already thinking that so quickly into leveraging Pinterest, then you already kind of failed. You really are telling yourself that it’s not gonna work and you have to get out of that mindset. So I think that mindset is a big deal across the board. With your business and your life in general, keep positive and say “I’m gonna figure out how to make Pinterest work for my business. Pinterest is gonna work for my business. Pinterest works for others, and it can work for me too.” And having that mindset will put you in that space to really understand how to make it work for you and finding your own flow. I think it’s truly important to think positively about how you’re going to make Pinterest work for you, it can really be helpful for your overall strategy.
📍 Reason #4: Ditch the 2010 Tactics
And then the fourth thing is that you might have been using a lot of quick hacks or old strategies and tactics. So a lot of the things that worked in the 2010s on Pinterest, those things do not really work anymore. We’re not pinning 30 times a day. It’s not really necessary anymore. You know, really right now, the thing is quality over quantity, it used to be quantity, like pushing out 30 to 50 pins over and over and over again, the same pin over and over and over again and it didn’t matter, but now it does matter. And the type of content that you’re putting on Pinterest really does matter.
You don’t have to show up as often anymore. You don’t have to be pinning as often anymore. You don’t have to do certain things that you used to do. And a lot of times I see people using those old tactics and strategies or they’re holding onto them because they used to work. And the thing is, things have changed. You have to learn how to change with it. That’s just like all platforms. Things are gonna change. It’s very important to understand that and know how you can pivot so things can keep working for you. And a lot of what I see is that we get stuck in those old strategies, or we see someone talk about a quick hack or a quick fix. And, you know, we try that out and it works for a little while, but then it doesn’t work anymore. And the thing is, you need to really understand what you really need to do and how to keep tweaking and testing and improving that thing, whatever it is, that part of your strategy, so that it can keep working for you in the long term.
📍 Reason #5: Freebies Only Go So Far
The last thing is that you are stuck on trying to piece together your strategy. You’re piecing together your strategy from all those free things that you’ve come across. So your free PDFs, these free YouTube videos, free master classes, things like that. And what you’re getting is a lot of generic information. When I give out information on these videos, though, I think they are very valuable. They are very genetic. They are very cookie cutter information because I can’t see your business backend. I don’t know how much content you’re creating. I don’t know your energy level. I don’t know what you’re trying to do with Pinterest. I don’t know your goals. So I can only give you generic information.
And a lot of what you’re getting is not going to really help you fully see that picture. You’re going to be able to piece together certain things, but you’re gonna still feel like something is missing. There’s a piece missing and you don’t know what it is, but you don’t know how to move the needle forward to the next step. And that’s what some people struggle with is because they are too afraid to invest in something else. Something, you know, like maybe a mini course or a full course, or, you know, a one-to-one session, a strategy session. You’re afraid to do those things, but you want Pinterest to work so much, but it’s like, you have to understand, you have to take that leap and invest in someone that can help you move the needle forward much faster, much quicker. I’m not saying that you can’t do it with the free versions of things because you definitely can. But I always say would you rather save time or save money?
I know me, I like to save time because I like my time to be able to focus on things in my zone of genius. So if something isn’t my zone of genius, then I’m going to either get a course and learn how to do it quicker or invest in someone to help me to do it themselves, or to do it for me. Or to even teach me how to do it in a much quicker capacity, than it is for me to just try to piece together this person’s tips and this person’s tips, and the thing I got from this free summit and this thing that I got from this other summit. End rant, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
So hopefully these are some things that made you go like hmm, yeah that’s me. And actually rethink how you want to approach Pinterest marketing, because I believe it is truly, truly, truly, truly amazing especially as a long term marketing strategy that’s going to help you consistently feature your funnels on autopilot. So you can physically show up less and your content still shows up more. You’re able to maximize your impact, maximize your reach.
So if you are looking to really improve your strategy or get more feedback on your strategy, or just, you know, find new ways, I do have some options for you. You can definitely check out my masterclass, which is the Three Ps to Pinterest Success, and that’s how to turn your content into cash. Find that link HERE, and I also have a very luxe checklist that will help you go through all the different steps that you need to take your people from Pinterest to profit.
