If you are on Pinterest, if you’re using Pinterest right now, or even if you’re new to Pinterest, you might have heard of idea pins. So I wanted to talk about what they are, and some of the ways that you can use them for your business.

Idea pins (formally called story pins) are really there to spark inspiration, spark an idea, to kind of tell a story. As a Pinterest creator, you can use them similar to the way you might use Instagram stories, Tik Tok or Reels, or even your Instagram carousel posts.

Make sure you can take the content that you’re making on Instagram stories, Tik Tok, or Reels and repurpose it for Idea Pins, because I am a believer that we do not have to keep creating the wheel. If you’re giving out valuable carousel posts, for example: five ways to grow your podcast, or three ways to get clients this week, you can use that content as idea pins as well.

But how are you going to do that? 

First, think about what you’re saying. If you’re saying something that can be used as something that can spark inspiration, as something that can tell the story. 

For example, I can make “five ways to grow your podcast” into something that will work on my idea pins, by splitting it up into little different little slides that people can watch on Pinterest and get valuable information really quickly on how to use idea pins.

Second, if you have carousel posts, and if you are using Canva pro, you can easily take those carousel posts and resize them into Pinterest idea pin sized graphics. Personally, I actually use the Instagram story size and not the Pinterest pin size. So I suggest using the Instagram story size. As always, make sure they’re actually giving value. Don’t just throw spaghetti at the wall to see if it will stick. You want to be giving back value in these idea pins.

📍  Presh Pro Tip:

If you want to repurpose your Tik Tok or your Reels, first make sure you remove the watermarks from them. For a Tik Tok I use an app called Tik ToK downloader to remove the Tik Tok watermark so that I can repurpose it onto Pinterest as an idea pin.

Just like all platforms, Pinterest is pushing video content. So really, really make sure that you’re using idea pins to their full potential. Idea pins and video pins get pushed a little bit more lately. If you are on Pinterest, take advantage of idea pins so you can get more people seeing your Pinterest and following you on Pinterest. 

PS. A new feature idea pins allow is tagging products. This is a great addition because idea pins don’t link anywhere, and tagging products allows you to promote them directly in the pin.
