“Tell me you love me!\u201d he said through gritted teeth. Avelyn gripped at her boyfriend\u2019s, Dasiah, hands as they clutched her throat. Her breathing getting slower by the second.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201cDa\u2014\u201d she tried to squeeze out his name but his grip tightened.<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
\u201cTell me! Fucking tell me you love me!\u201d<\/span><\/div>

Fire spilled from his eyes and Avelyn\u2019s fingers turned a shade of red as she yanked at his hands. Please don\u2019t do this. She was fading by the minute but she couldn\u2019t tell him what he wanted to hear.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

She loved no one.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Avelyn gasped for air as her eyes flew open. The arms around her body stiffened as her heart rate decreased.<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

\u201cBabe, you okay?\u201d Dasiah\u2019s voice made her jump, but she nodded. He drew her to him and kissed her forehead.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201cIt was a bad dream,\u201d she mumbled as reality set in and she found comforts in the same person that had been trying to kill her in her nightmare.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

Another kiss found its way to her cheek. \u201cTell the big bad monsters I ain\u2019t fucking with them over you.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Avelyn snickered. \u201cShut up.\u201d She pushed her body deeper into his and closed her eyes again.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

Sleep didn\u2019t come as her mind wondered to the dream she\u2019d had every night from the moment Dasiah told her he loved her a week ago. He\u2019d confessed his deepest emotion to her when he thought she was sleep but Avelyn heard him loud and clear and nothing in her had been the same.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Love was a game she didn\u2019t play with anyone and Dasiah was no exception.<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

* * *<\/span><\/b><\/p><\/div>

\u201cBae!\u201d Dasiah yelled coming out of his bedroom to find Avelyn in the kitchen making his favorite breakfast dishes.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

\u201cWhy are you yelling?\u201d she asked chuckling as she peeked over her shoulder at him. He had on nothing but a towel and Avelyn eyes took him in like the meal he was. Dasiah Stokes was a sight with his deep dark cocoa colored skin, athletic body, and above average height. His full lips, pearly white teeth, and beard accentuated his piercing look.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201c\u2018Cause it smells too damn good in here. I\u2019ma have to go on trips more often if you gon\u2019 throw down like this.\u201d<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

\u201cBoy please,\u201d she said before focusing back on the pancakes. She flipped them and then turned the stove down when his arms wrapped around her midsection. He planted soft kisses against her neck before giving her a sloppy one on the cheek.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201cYou gon\u2019 miss me?\u201d<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
Avelyn swallowed hard. \u201cWhat kind of question is that?\u201d she asked moving from his grasp to the fridge. \u201cAre you excited or nervous is the real question? Africa for three months\u2026 I\u2019m so jealous.\u201d<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

\u201cYou could have come with. I told you to apply.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201cYeah\u2026 too late now. I\u2019ll instead spend my summer getting coffee for some asshole or something,\u201d she said referring to her internship for a new Web series.<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

\u201cI doubt that. The series sounds dope as fuck and with you helping with production, it\u2019ll be even better. Don\u2019t go stressing about it either. I can\u2019t hit you with some D over FaceTime.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Avelyn rolled her eyes while laughing at him. He always had a way to get her smiling and laughing and that sent a ping of guilt through her body. \u201cSy you are a mess. Your parents need to get you checked.\u201d<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

\u201cThey said I\u2019m special.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201cThey never lied.\u201d He slapped her on the ass and she giggled.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

\u201cI can\u2019t believe it\u2019s our last day together until August but I\u2019m excited. Not about these long ass flights though. Trash as fuck.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201cYeah, you can have that,\u201d she said as she cut up fruit. \u201cBut I\u2019m sure you\u2019ll have the time of your life and it\u2019ll be such an experience.\u201d<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

Dasiah nodded. \u201cIn the meantime, I\u2019m trying to experience you at least ten more times before my flight.\u201d His fingers ran down her spine making her teeth dig into her bottom lip as her vagina jumped.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Avelyn stared at the kitchen clock. \u201cUm\u2026 you want me to live to see tomorrow or nah?\u201d<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

Dasiah\u2019s laugh echoed throughout the kitchen. \u201cAight\u2026 five will do. But finish this food woman so we can enjoy each other and you can help me finish packing.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201cSiah!\u201d She set down the knife and turned towards him. \u201cYou said you were done.\u201d<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

\u201cDid I?\u201d he balled up his face, and she snarled.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201cI hate you.\u201d<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

\u201cSaid no one ever,\u201d he placed a kiss on her lips and she shook her head before his mouth met hers again.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Twelve hours later, Avelyn wished she hadn\u2019t parked and walked him into the airport to say goodbye but here they stood outside the security checkpoint. The strings of her heart squeeze and her lungs weren\u2019t getting enough air as they stared at each other.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
\u201cI need to go.\u201d Dasiah checked his watch. \u201cI\u2019ll FaceTime you when I get to my layover.\u201d<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

You won\u2019t.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201cI\u2019ma really miss your annoying ass Jinx,\u201d he said calling her his infamous nickname. The nickname he\u2019d been calling her since they met when she was a freshman and he was a junior. Every time some kind of bad luck happened to one of her friends she was there. It was like she was the bad luck and Dasiah always clowned her about it and then dubbed her with the lovely nickname.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

He pulled her into a hug and planted a kiss on her lips that went from innocent to a make-out session. Avelyn took him in like water on a scorching day in Dubai. When they pulled apart, she let him take a part of her with him. To remember her by because this was the end.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

She cared about Dasiah and their time together had been couples goals but he woke her up last week when he let his truth slip.<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

\u201cYou ain\u2019t gon\u2019 say bye or tell me how much you\u2019ll miss me?\u201d He asked running his hands down her body until they settled on her waist.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201cWe \u2014 \u201d<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
\u201cI\u2019ve been struggling on telling you something,\u201d he cut her off. \u201cBut this is the best time and probably the only time I\u2019ll get the nerve.\u201d<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

Please don\u2019t say it again.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201cI love you, Avelyn.\u201d There it was. She suspected it was coming.<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
She dropped her head before holding it back up and letting her eyes meet his. \u201cDasiah\u2026\u201d She sucked in air. \u201cDon\u2019t.\u201d<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
\u201cDon\u2019t what?\u201d<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
\u201cLove me.\u201d<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

\u201cWhy not?\u201d She pulled her head back. It was one thing that he loved her but it was another that he loved her after they\u2019d only been together a short time. They had only passed their three month mark two weeks ago, and he\u2019d already fallen. \u201cBaby,\u201d he continued, \u201cI\u2019ve never been one to front about what I want or who I love and that\u2019s you. It happened quick, but that\u2019s what it is and I thought you was feeling it too. Our vibe is crazy.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Their vibe was magnetic, but that was where she drew the line. \u201cDasiah I think we should break up,\u201d she blurted out the words and pushed her shoulders back and chest out. \u201cYou\u2019re going to Africa for months, long distances have never been my thing and you\u2019re moving \u2014 \u201d<\/span><\/div>

\u201cIt\u2019s the fucking summer Ave. Are you serious right now?\u201d he based making Avelyn take a step back from him. They had a carefree relationship, and he\u2019d never had the look on his face he had right now, ever. It frightened her.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201cI\u2019m sorry but \u2014 Yes.\u201d She cut right to the chase and Dasiah cocked his head and contorted his face. \u201cI don\u2019t wanna do the whole long distance thing,\u201d she said hoping to soften the blow. It sounded much better than \u2018I don\u2019t wanna be with you because you can\u2019t control your feelings and keep them to yourself\u2019.<\/span><\/div>

\u201cSo you\u2019re breaking up with me because I\u2019m going to fucking volunteer in another country for the summer? You always been this damn selfish?\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Avelyn\u2019s skin stood at attention as his veins stood out along his neck. His skin flushed. Flashbacks of her dream sent a shiver through her bones. \u201cI don\u2019t mean to hurt you but it\u2019s for the best, okay?\u201d<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

\u201cAvelyn, tell me you\u2019re fucking with me?\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201cI\u2019m not Dasiah. We\u2019re done and I don\u2019t go back on my word. This was supposed to be fun and you\u2019ve let it get too serious.\u201d<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

\u201cIt\u2019s called being in a relationship,\u201d he yelled. Avelyn shrank back before she ran her hands down her face and looked around at the people whose attention they were catching.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u201cLower your damn voice before they don\u2019t let you on the plane,\u201d she reasoned.<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>

Dasiah huffed. \u201cFuck you Avelyn. You got it though. I gotta go.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/div>

\u00a0He snatched his duffle bag off the ground before stomping towards the security line. Avelyn feet wouldn\u2019t move as she stared at his back. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, but I can\u2019t love you,\u201d she mumbled to herself before she dragged herself in the opposite direction. She\u2019d done what she\u2019d always done but this time things felt different.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
