People be lying about a lot of stuff, but what they’re not lying about is how you need people on your email list — the right people — a.k.a. action takers.
So today I’m going to tell you all about how you can grow your email list using both Pinterest and Instagram. Let’s get into it.
🗝️ First, you need to have a lead magnet that is actually going to intrigue your audience.
Now you might be saying, okay, what is this lead magnet? And you might be like, Hey, Google, what’s a lead magnet? I’m gonna just tell you.
A lead magnet is a free offer that is valuable that will get people to hand you their precious, precious email address. So a lead magnet can be:
- a webinar,
- a masterclass,
- a PDF,
- a guide book,
- a checklist,
- any free offer that you are giving people to get their email address.
Make sure that it’s something valuable that will make people want to give their email addresses for it. Because you don’t want to give your email address to just anybody, right? So if you’re just saying, “Sign up for my newsletter!” – my first question is, what am I getting? What are you giving me for free? People want to receive something in exchange.
Once you have a bomb ass lead magnet, now you have to grow your email list with action takers. You don’t want to just have a whole bunch of people on there who are not actually taking action on your content because you’re wasting space. If you’re using something like ConvertKit, you don’t have space to waste because you pay for those subscribers. If they are not interacting with your content, opening your emails you don’t want them, you don’t need them. You need action takers.
🗝️ So how do you use Instagram to grow your email list?
Use Instagram to grow your email list by talking about your lead magnet often. And then of course the call to action is telling them to click the link in your bio to actually get your free thing. Whenever you post about something, the call to action is to click the link in your bio to get your free offer.
So, I’d say at least once a week on your stories, your feed, your reels, your IGTVs, you are telling people to click the link in your bio to get your free offer.
🗝️ Bonus pro tip: put in your bio that you have something free for them if they click the link in your bio.
So if you look at my Instagram, my bio says FREEBIE with an arrow. So people know that as soon as they come on my page, they already know that they can get something free from me by clicking the link in my bio.
So make sure you are talking about it and you are using your calls to action, that is key. You need to tell people on Instagram exactly what you want them to do, otherwise they’re not going to do it.
And you need to keep telling them to do it because the first time you tell somebody to click the link in your bio, they are not going to do it. So you want to make sure that you are repeating yourself and talking about your free thing often.
That’s how you’re going to use Instagram to grow your email list. And it’s really about being very strategic, about using your calls to action and incorporating those things into your topics that you’re talking about.
🗝️ Now, how do you use Pinterest to grow your email list?
So with Pinterest, you are going to take your lead magnet and create a whole bunch of pins about that lead magnet and put it on Pinterest. Keyword your pins correctly, and people are just going to find your lead magnet.
Because Pinterest is cold traffic, you want to make sure that your lead magnet page (whatever page you’re driving them to where they can sign up for your masterclass, your free guide book, whatever it is) is designed for cold traffic.
You need to make it clear so they understand exactly what they’re getting and why they want to get it from you. So you want to have good, clear copy on these pages that can actually get people to easily give you their email addresses, where they’re thinking, “Okay, I see exactly what I’m going to get, I see the benefits of it, I want it, here’s my email, sign me up.”
With Pinterest, you don’t have to convince people that they want the thing you’re offering because they were already searching for it. And because they were already searching for it, they’re already more likely to be action takers because they already know they definitely need a solution (your solution) to the problem that they’re searching.
They need you, they found you. So they already are going to get your free thing and just give you their email address. They like free stuff on Pinterest but they are also action takers. And that’s what matters.
So when it comes to growing your email list with action takers, I will say that I believe that Pinterest is ideal for this because in the long term, it will constantly still be driving traffic to your content.
As business owners, as coaches and content creators a lot of the time we have multiple free offers that we have out there and on Instagram, we are only focusing on one. So it’s good to have Pinterest working in the background, constantly driving traffic to your freebies and not just one thing so that people searching for your different solutions can find you – growing your email list with action takers FOR FREE!
